About this model

What it is

The PL12 is the heavy duty portaloo in the plastic tier and the one we recommend for Australian and New Zealand buyers. Like the rest of the plastic tier this is the fast deploy option for events, hire fleets, construction sites, workforce camps and emergency response, a different job from the steel toilet cabins that connect to mains water, sewer and power for parks, clubs and rural blocks.

How it is built

It steps up from the compact model with double skin HDPE walls, a galvanised steel skid base and noticeably bigger tanks, a 160 litre sink tank and a 280 litre waste tank, so it handles more traffic between services. That matters on a job site where the pump out truck comes weekly, or at a regional event where the servicing run is long.

The steel skid takes the punishment of being dragged, chained and stacked in a hire yard, which is where plastic only bases tend to give up first. It is spec'd for Australian and New Zealand plumbing standards, so if you are buying for the United States the compact PL11 is the one configured for that market instead.

Delivery and freight

Lifting hooks are fitted as standard, with a large hook set available as an upgrade, so a crane, hiab or telehandler can shift units around a site or on and off a truck without a forklift. Units ship by sea and are moved on site by hiab, forklift or tilt tray.

Frequently asked questions

Why is this the Australian unit rather than the compact one?

It is spec'd for Australian and New Zealand plumbing standards, and the practical differences back that up: double skin walls, a galvanised steel skid base and much larger tanks at 160 litres fresh and 280 litres waste. If you are buying for the United States, the compact PL11 is the model configured for that market.

Does it need water, power or a plumbing connection?

No. It is self contained. The foot pump draws from the fresh tank for the flush and the basin, and waste collects in the 280 litre tank for pump out. Nothing connects to sewer or mains; however, approval, plumbing, electrical and licensed-trade requirements remain site-dependent and must be confirmed before deployment for each site.

Do I need council approval?

Requirements vary by council, site and intended use. Before deployment, confirm building and plumbing approvals, event, workplace and public-health conditions, required unit numbers, licensed-trade requirements, servicing and waste-removal arrangements with the relevant authority or venue. Confirm the applicable conditions in writing before ordering the unit. Record authority response and servicing plan before delivery or placement is scheduled.

How do I move it around a site?

Lifting hooks are fitted as standard and a large hook set is available as an upgrade, so a crane, hiab or telehandler can lift it directly. The galvanised steel skid also lets you drag or forklift the unit. That combination is why hire fleets prefer this model over a plastic only base.

How often will it need servicing?

It depends on traffic. The 280 litre waste tank gives more time between pump outs than the compact model, which is the main reason it suits crews and regional events where the servicing run is long. Plan truck access to each unit before you place them, because access is what usually determines the servicing schedule.

How is it shipped and what does freight cost?

Units ship by sea, and it is most economic when your order fills or nearly fills a container. You can arrange your own freight or we can organise the shipment to your door. Freight is quoted separately for your port and quantity, because the number changes with volume and destination.

How does it compare to the steel toilet cabins?

Different jobs. This is the fast deploy option that needs no connections and moves easily, which suits hire fleets, events and site work. The steel cabins are insulated, semi permanent and connect to mains water, sewer and power for parks, clubs, campgrounds and rural blocks. Plenty of operators run both in the one fleet.

What warranty applies?

Warranty terms are confirmed in writing with your quote and order documents, and cover manufacturing defects in the moulded shell, the steel skid, tanks and hardware. Wear items such as seals, the pump diaphragm and door hardware, plus damage from misuse, vandalism or rough handling, sit outside warranty. Fleet buyers usually add a spares kit to the first order.
