About this model

What it is

At 6.4 m² the TH3 is the smallest pod we build, and it is sized to do one job well: give one person a quiet, insulated room away from the house. At 2,930 mm long it fits where nothing bigger will go, whether that is a narrow side return, a courtyard corner or the strip of lawn behind the garage.

The internal walls are flat, so the whole footprint stays usable and a desk, a chair and shelving still leave room to push back and stand up. There is no kitchenette and no bathroom in this size, which keeps it a simple mains powered room you fit out to suit the way you work.

How it is built

Construction is our standard pod build. A welded engineered steel frame sits on an epoxy enamel chassis, the walls are 50 mm PU foam cored insulated sandwich panel, and the shell is gloss white fluorocarbon coated steel. Inside, an 18 mm magnesium concrete composite subfloor is finished in 2 mm grey timber pattern vinyl.

Windows are double glazed aluminium awning units, the entry door is keyed, lighting is LED, and the switchboard and cabling are built to AS/NZS 3000 with RCM marked components so your electrician can connect it without rework.

Delivery and freight

The pod arrives by truck as one finished piece and is craned onto a prepared slab, footings or screw piles (steel posts wound into the ground instead of pouring a slab), so check crane access and overhead wires early. At roughly 1,220 kg it is the lightest unit in the range to lift and place. We deliver Australia wide and worldwide.

Quote enquiry process

How an enquiry works

A quote enquiry is not an order. Nothing is committed until you have a written quote naming the scope, the price and the delivery terms.

  1. 1

    Tell us the block

Send the model, your suburb or postcode and what the block is like. Access, slope and crane room change the price more than anything else.

  2. 2

    Get a Free Quote

A written quote covering the unit, freight to your address, and what is and is not included.

  3. 3

    We start your build

We lock in your design with you and then we coordinate with our builders to begin production.

  4. 4

    Delivery and set down

We coordinate the delivery process from factory to site, ensuring your home arrives safely and is positioned at your property with everything planned ahead of time.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need council approval for a backyard office pod?

It depends on your council and on how the room is used. A non habitable backyard studio or office is usually assessed differently to a secondary dwelling, and the rules change from state to state and even between neighbouring councils. We cannot promise an approval outcome. What we do supply is the structural drawings, specifications and compliance documentation we hold, so your certifier or town planner has what they need for a DA or CDC application (a development application or a complying development certificate, the two council approval routes).

What is actually included?

You get the finished shell and room: insulated walls and roof, vinyl floor, double glazed aluminium awning windows, a keyed entry door, LED lighting, power points and a pre-wired switchboard ready for connection. Desks, shelving, joinery, air conditioning and blinds are not included in the base pod. Tell us how you plan to use the room and we will quote the fit-out you want with it.

How is it delivered and what access do you need?

It travels as one finished piece on a truck and is craned onto your prepared slab, footings or screw piles. Check the crane standing area, overhead powerlines, tree branches, gate widths and any right of way before you order, because access is the thing that most often adds cost. Send us photos of the approach and we will tell you whether a standard crane truck can reach the spot.

What foundation does it sit on?

A reinforced concrete slab is the usual answer, and screw piles work well on sloping or reactive ground where you want to avoid excavation. We supply the bolt pattern and load points so your slab or pier layout can be set out before the unit lands. Footings are designed by your engineer to suit your soil classification (the site test that grades how much your ground swells and shrinks with moisture), because that is a site specific call that has to be made locally.

How does it connect to power?

The unit arrives pre-wired to AS/NZS 3000 with an RCM marked switchboard, so a licensed electrician makes the final connection back to your mains or sub board. There is no plumbing in this size. If you later want a bathroom you are better off stepping up a size, because the wet area has to be built into the floor and the wall panels at the factory.

What is the lead time?

Build time is normally around 20-30 working days from a signed order and approved drawings, then around 20-30 transit days of sea freight to an Australian port, including customs clearance and inland transport to your block. Allow a total 40-60 delivery days door to door as a working figure. We confirm real dates against factory capacity when you order, because lead times move with demand and shipping schedules.

What warranty comes with it?

Warranty terms are set out in writing with your quote and repeated in the supply agreement. The structure and the weatherproof shell are covered for a longer term than fixtures, fittings and appliances, which carry the warranties issued by their own manufacturers. Claims are handled through us rather than direct with the factory, and we keep the build documentation on file so you are not chasing an overseas supplier.

Can I move it to another property later?

Yes. It is a single piece unit bolted down to its footings, so it can be unbolted, lifted by crane and trucked to another block. You need the same crane and truck access at both ends, a prepared foundation waiting at the new site, and a licensed electrician and plumber to disconnect and reconnect the services. Most owners move one once, when they sell or subdivide.
